Policy
Editorial and Verification Policy
Every published story is expected to be accurate, sourced and attributable. This policy explains how that is maintained.
Sourcing
Details are drawn from records such as birth, death and marriage registers, service records, cemetery and council records, newspapers, archives, published histories and family documents. Each page lists the sources used.
Verification
A reviewer independent of the contributor checks names, dates, locations and council details against the cited sources before publication. Anything that cannot be supported is omitted or clearly marked as unverified.
Categories of content
- Verified facts, supported by cited records.
- Attributed recollections, credited to the person who shared them.
- Unverified submissions, held back or shown as awaiting verification.
Attribution and review dates
Pages display contributors, source citations, image credits and the date the record was last reviewed, so readers and researchers can judge and cite it.
What we will not do
We do not invent biographies, dates, quotations, sources or council endorsements. Where information is missing, the page says so.
Corrections
Corrections are welcome and are assessed against sources. When a page changes materially, its review date is updated and the change is recorded in the audit history.
